Against the backdrop of the booming global construction industry, scaffolding, as an indispensable equipment in construction, is receiving increasing attention for its technological innovation and safety issues. Recently, the international scaffolding industry has shown a diversified development trend in technology exhibitions, safety accidents, and environmental protection measures.

1、 International exhibitions promote technological exchange and cooperation

The 14th China International Template Scaffolding Construction Technology and Product Equipment Exhibition was successfully held from April 18th to 20th, 2024 at the China International Exhibition Center (Chaoyang Hall) in Beijing. The exhibition is jointly organized by the China Formwork and Scaffolding Association and the China International Exhibition Center Group, attracting professionals from construction units, leasing enterprises, distribution channels, and manufacturers from all over the world. The exhibition not only showcased the latest template scaffolding technology and equipment, but also promoted international technical exchanges and cooperation through industry forums held at the same time, further promoting the development and upgrading of the industry.

Similarly, the Dutch High Altitude Operation and Scaffolding Exhibition held at the MECC exhibition center in Maastricht, Netherlands in 2023 also achieved great success. This exhibition provides a valuable communication platform for the construction industry, gathering 16000 visitors and 408 exhibiting companies, showcasing the latest products and technologies covering high-altitude work platforms and scaffolding, and promoting international cooperation and innovation.

2、 Safety accidents draw industry attention

Despite continuous technological innovation, the scaffolding industry still faces severe safety challenges. On October 30, 2023, a serious scaffolding collapse accident occurred at a construction site in Hamburg, Germany, resulting in the death of at least five workers and multiple missing persons. This incident has sparked widespread global attention to scaffold safety standards. The relevant departments in Germany quickly launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and strengthen safety supervision on the construction site.

On July 30th of the same year, a scaffolding collapse accident also occurred in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, France, resulting in one death and three injuries. These accidents once again highlight the importance of strictly adhering to safety regulations during the construction and use of scaffolding. The construction industry in various countries has strengthened safety training and enhanced the safety awareness of construction personnel to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.

3、 Environmental protection and sustainable development have become new trends

Along with technological innovation, the scaffolding industry has also begun to pay attention to environmental protection and sustainable development. Taking the restoration project of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in 2020 as an example, during the process of dismantling the burnt scaffolding, the engineering team took multiple environmental measures, including using surfactants to treat contaminated steel pipes and avoiding the pollution of lead dust to the environment. This project not only demonstrates high-level construction technology, but also reflects the importance of environmental protection in building maintenance.

In addition, with the popularization of green building concepts, scaffolding materials and construction techniques are also transitioning towards environmental protection. Many companies have begun to develop and use recyclable and low pollution scaffolding materials to reduce negative environmental impacts and meet the sustainable development needs of the global construction industry.

4、 Future outlook: equal emphasis on technological innovation and security

Looking ahead, the scaffolding industry will seek a balance between technological innovation and safety regulation. With the development of intelligence and automation technology, intelligent scaffolding systems will gradually be applied to construction sites, improving the safety and efficiency of scaffolding through real-time monitoring and data analysis. At the same time, the international community will strengthen the standardization and implementation of safety standards, promoting the overall improvement of the industry's safety level.

In terms of environmental protection, green scaffolding technology will be further popularized, promoting the development of the construction industry towards a more sustainable direction. Governments and businesses around the world need to work together to develop and implement strict environmental policies to ensure the environmental friendliness of scaffolding production and use.

In short, driven by technological advancements and market demand, the scaffolding industry is moving towards a more intelligent, safe, and environmentally friendly direction. Faced with challenges and opportunities, global scaffolding companies need to constantly innovate, enhance their competitiveness, and contribute to the sustainable development of the construction industry.
